This transit is
manufactured by Bausch and Lomb Optical and is what was known
as a Mountain Transit. This instrument turns horizontal angles
to 1 minute and has a vertical scale which also reads to 1
minute. Stadia distance can also be measured. Patents of Sept
1, 1903 and Jan 1, 1903 appear on the compass rose. Also
appearing on the compass rose is number 1896. On the bottom of
the leveling plate which attaches instrument to tripod is the
number 26. Instrument comes complete with original adjustable
legs tripod and mahogany carrying case including adjustment
tools, plumb bob, sun shade, and hand lens. Case size is 12.5"
long, 8" wide, and 6.5" high. Instrument weighs 12 pounds in
the case and eye piece is 8 inches long. This transit is in
really nice shape just minor age and handling.
