I am
offering for your consideration a W. & L.E. Gurley Pocket
Railroad compass with telescope. The compass still retains its
original box, the strap is old but I am sure a replacement. The
compass and telescope are in overall very nice condition, all
motions work fine the telescope focuses well but does not retain the
cross hairs and the lens could use a cleaning, they are not damaged
just could use a clean if wanted. The sight veins are half slit and
half hair with the hair missing and are set off center which allows
the telescope to center over the compass. The sight veins can be
inclined and the telescope mounted to the top of them with 2 knurled
screws. The compass needle is 4 ½” long. Both level vials are
working and appear original. There is a single vernier in the
compass box reading to single minutes. The brass face of the compass
is lightly freckled. All graduations on both compass and vertical
vernier are on brass not silver. The glass has been replaced as the
original was fractured when found. The needle lifter screw I am sure
is a replacement but looks fine and works fine also. This compass
was originally a bright brass finish but has acquired a beautiful
patina over is life. I do not have the tripod but had a brass
fitting made that screws into the bottom of the ball and socket,
this piece seen in the last photo comes with the instrument. The
adapter fits on a Johnson head tripod that I have and can be
purchased for an additional $75.00 postage included if wanted. There
