This early 20th. century "Mountain"
Transit is signed on the compass face: " Kolesch & Co. 2936 New
York". The firm was established in 1885 when Heinrich and Percy
Kolesch purchased the F. Eckel Co. This small transit--"Pioneer"
model as shown in the pic of the Kolesch catalog (not included)--
has an 8 1/2" erecting telescope with excellent optics and the
crosshairs in place. The compass needle is about 3 3/4" in length,
and the horizontal limb reads to one minute on the vernier. All
motions move freely, and the instrument is in good working
condition. This is a complete outfit, with original tripod, box,
sunshade, and lens cap. Buyer pays actual shipping charges to be
