Description
This is The Theory and Practice of Surveying; Containing All the Instructions Requisite for the Skillful Practice of the Art, by Robert Gibson, Illustrated by Copper Plates, Newly Arranged, Improved, and Enlarged by James Ryan, New York, 1821. The book is 5.4" x 8.8" with 360 pages of text plus 184 pages of tables and 14 folding plates and an engraved frontispiece showing instruments. Gibson wrote what became the standard American surveying text during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. They were first published in Dublin and several changes were made to adapt the book for publication in America. It describes as a theodolite a non-telescopic instrument with 4 sight vanes such as is generally termed today a circumferentor. That term in the book is applied to what is today termed a Surveyor's Compass. To see a detailed review of Gibson's Surveying visit The Compleat Surveyor website at http://www.uzes.net. The book has a nice original leather cover in good condition. The interior is also in good condition except for some foxing, and moisture staining to about the first dozen pages - more noticeable towards the front cover. California residents add 7.25% sales tax. Personal checks OK but item held until clear. Search words: survey, surveying, surveyor, transit, level, plumb, engineer, science.

If you're the seller or the high bidder - now what?

  1. Contact each other. The seller (howitzer) and the high bidder (jpahel@penn.com) should contact each other within three business days to discuss payment and shipping details.

  2. Leave feedback for the other party once the the seller has received the payment and the winning bidder has received the item.
Leave feedback to seller - Leave feedback to bidder.

Details for the seller and high bidder(s):
The seller should contact the winning bidder(s) with information on the total cost, including shipping, and where to send payment. The winning bidder(s) must pay the seller directly for the item(s), and it is the seller's responsibility to fulfill the order when payment terms are met. The binding contract of the auction is between the winning bidder and the seller.

If the seller is unable to establish contact with the high bidder within 3 business days, the seller may contact the next highest bidder. Therefore, if the high bidder does not contact the seller within 3 business days of the end of the auction, he/she may lose the place as winning bidder, and be at risk for receiving negative feedback and/or a Non-Paying Bidder warning, both of which can ultimately lead to suspension from eBay.
