Description

OLD W & L.E. Gurley Surveyors Compass *LOOK

  W & L.E. Gurley

Surveyors Compass

W & L.E. Gurley, Manufacturers of Civil Engineers & Surveyors Instruments.  Troy, N.Y.

est. 1845

This surveyors compass is in excellent shape.  It doesn't have a serial #, so we guess it was manufactured pre- 1900.

The surveyors compass has an approximate 5" face with (2) 2-1/4" bubble levels.  It comes in what appears to be the original wooden box.   At least there is a label on the inside of the lid with the W & L.E. Gurley   manufacturers label.  There is 2 mountable sights that can be secured in the box for the compass.  There is a full metal face that screws down over the face of the compass to protect it.

The box is in good shape.  There is a lock mechanism that at sometime has been broken.  There is an attached leather strap with a metal buckle to fasten the lid securely.

The set comes with a 5 ' tripod that the compass mounts to.   Everything appears to be in correct order and placement, nothing missing.   When mounted, the compass appears to work.

This surveyors compass appears to be made in the 1800's.   If anyone has any input, feel free to e-mail.

We think it would be hard to find a more complete set, from this era of production!

Details for the seller and high bidder(s):
The seller should contact the winning bidder(s) with information on the total cost, including shipping, and where to send payment. The winning bidder(s) must pay the seller directly for the item(s), and it is the seller's responsibility to fulfill the order when payment terms are met. The binding contract of the auction is between the winning bidder and the seller.

If the seller is unable to establish contact with the high bidder within 3 business days of the end of the auction, he/she may lose the place as winning bidder, and be at risk for receiving negative feedback and/or a Non-Paying Bidder warning, both of which can ultimately lead to suspension from eBay.
