Description
This unique instrument is signed in script on the compass face: "Henry Ware, Maker Cincinnati, Ohio". Ware began making instruments in Cincinnati in 1839, and this transit is one of his earliest. It has several unusual features: The standards are tilted inward at the top resulting in only a 3 1/2" telescope axis; the horizontal motion is GEAR DRIVEN; and the variation plate (also gear driven) is located outside the compass box. All tangents are either opposing screw or ball and socket. The 10 1/4" erecting telescope has "triangulation" type cross wires. This rare transit is in good working condition and retains the majority of its original lacquered brass finish. Buyer pays actual shipping and insurance charges, to be determined after close of auction. Payment by money order or cashier's check.

Details for the seller and high bidder(s):
The seller should contact the winning bidder(s) with information on the total cost, including shipping, and where to send payment. The winning bidder(s) must pay the seller directly for the item(s), and it is the seller's responsibility to fulfill the order when payment terms are met. The binding contract of the auction is between the winning bidder and the seller.

If the seller is unable to establish contact with the high bidder within 3 business days of the end of the auction, he/she may lose the place as winning bidder, and be at risk for receiving negative feedback and/or a Non-Paying Bidder warning, both of which can ultimately lead to suspension from eBay.
