Description
This item is an 1852 book on Surveying and Navigation by Charles Davies, 'With Descriptions of the Instruments and Necessary Tables'. Book was published by A. S. Barnes, New York, with the authors Preface written from Fishkill Landing, NY(?) in July of 1851. This is a revised edition. Volume measures about 5 by 8 inches, is about 1-1/4 inch thick, has about 395 numbered pages (221 pages of text, plus the tables), plus additional foldout pages, and weighs 1.7 lbs w/o packaging. Condition is as follows: the leather front cover board is separated, the back leather covered board and spine cover are attached to the binding, the title page and following page are heavily spotted, the binding is intact and tight, all pages are present and undamaged, there are some handwritten notations occasionally in the book and a dated inscription inside the front cover, some slight intermittent foxing throughout, slight age yellowing, and no other significant flaws. The book contains several fold-out drawings in the back, which depict images of instruments, and examples of drafting work, using the techniques described in the text. These old drawings are likely the books's highlights. See images below for more details; email any questions to me. Listed without reserve, with the high bidder prepaying and paying for USPS priority insured mail delivery of $4.05. JK
