Description
This is the first colorized edition of Gurley's Manual. W. & L.E. Gurley was the most popular American maker of surveying instruments at the beginning of the 20th century and every collector will benefit from having one of their manuals from that period. These great books contain descriptions of about two dozen varieties of surveying instruments including information on adjusting many. The preferred editions are the few with colorized plates of the major instruments and these appear only in the 1910, 1912 and 1914 editions. All other editions had only black-and-white plates. The 1910 45th edition manual is the first with colorized plates and has 19 of them plus approximately 300 black-and-white plates and illustrations of other instruments, tools, drafting items, etc. It is 4.6" x 6.8" with 516 pages including 263 pages of descriptive information plus a price list. The surveying instruments include engineers transits, surveyors transits, explorers' transits, light mountain transit, reconnaissance transit, builders' transit, two types of solar transits, vernier transit-compasses, solar compass, railroad compass, vernier compasses, plain compasses, the small pocket models of solar, railroad, vernier and plain compasses, wye levels, drainage levels, plane-taable outfits, alidades, current-meters, military sketching outfits, sextants, chains, tapes, and much more without even mentioning the complete line of drafting equipment, field glasses, telescopes, rain gauges, self registering thermometers, etc. Condition is good noting there is a small repaired tear in the margin of one page not affecting text or plates. California residents add 7.25% sales tax.
