Description |
These "Burt" Solar Instruments are very seldom encountered, and one in this condition and completeness is very rare indeed. Every piece of original auxiliary equipment and tools associated with this transit are present: Burt Patent Solar Attachment, Latitude Level, Striding or Adjusting Level, Spanner Gauge, Reading Glass, Plumb Bob, Capstan Pins, Needle Pivot Wrench, Screwdriver, Sunshade, and Lens Cap. Also included is the original leather covered mahogany box and tripod. The entire outfit, made around 1895-1900 (pre-serial number), is in excellent working condition with much of the original "bronzed" brass finish intact. The original trade label is in place on the box lid. The 8 1/2" erecting telescope is equipped with stadia cross-wires, and the 5" radius vertical arc reads to one minute on the screw-driven vernier. The horizontal limb reads to one minute on the vernier as well, and the compass has an internal variation plate. Buyer pays actual shipping and insurance costs, to be determined after close of the auction. Payment by money order or casher's check preferred.
