Description
Here we offer one more serious and very rare instrument by Otto Fennel Sohne in Cassel #8050. Transit? We cannot identify its purposes. It is weird! If you look through the scope you'll see special spots in order of circle. It stands on 3 wheels made of ivory to allow circle movement of instrument, one of wheels has screw break to fix the position. Lots of moving parts around instrument go smooth by silvered scales. Overall condition is fine, the only scratches located on scales because it was in use. Oxidised parts look fresh. Measurerments: 28,5 x x39,5 x 14,5 cm / 11 1/2" x 16" x 6". Probably assembled or distributed in Russia by G.Gerlach in Warsaw (see photo of engravings) circa 1909. Most of instruments made by Fennel's manufacture were produced in very few (up to 1!) copies. We suspect that this one is really it! Museum item. What else?.. Count your savings and put your bid! Dear Bidders, Winner of this auction will have to provide payment by Western Union money transfer or bank wire transfer - please check its conditions. No checks, money orders and credit cards! Please contact us for other payment methods, shipping and handling fees and feel free to email us with any questions before the end of auction. You are Welcome to take look at our other auctions (Fine and Decorative Art, Antique Science Instruments and many more). Good luck and best of all!

Many thanks for Unknown Collector who sent me this: "The Fennel instrument is a telescopic plane table alidade with vertical tangent scale and right angle bar. It may also have a parallel ruling scale on it. Used on a leveled field table to produce topographic maps by stadia readings, including elevation contours, while observing the terrain being mapped."

Specialists say: "This instrument is alidade".
