Description
I have never owned a surveyors compass and I know very little about the particulars of its design. However, I have discovered through some research that this St. Louis maker is not listed in a book by Smart, which, as I understand, is considered one of the most important reference works about this kind of instrument. The condition appears quite good to me except for one of the bubbles, which has a small crack in the glass that has allowed the fluid to leak out. The compass does not appear to have been polished or cleaned. The box is in nice condition except that two of the small pieces of wood that hold the sight wings in place have come unglued - they are not broken. Included with the compass is the single pole that came with it. It sustained a crack apparently many years ago and has been carefully repaired by wire wrapping which appears to be period. Please remember that this is an auction. What you see is what you are bidding on, so please ask any questions before the end of the auction. Winning bidder pays actual shipping charges. Due to the nature of this fine piece we will have it professionally packaged (2 boxes) to protect it in shipment. Insurance is mandatory. Since this is a consignment item I have to request money orders or certified bank checks only please. Acknowledgement by the winning bidder is expected within 3 days of the end of the auction with payment expected within 7 days of acknowledgement. Good luck in bidding on this fine and rare instrument.:

Details for the seller and high bidder(s):
The seller should contact the winning bidder(s) with information on the total cost, including shipping, and where to send payment. The winning bidder(s) must pay the seller directly for the item(s), and it is the seller's responsibility to fulfill the order when payment terms are met. The binding contract of the auction is between the winning bidder and the seller.

If the seller is unable to establish contact with the high bidder within 3 business days of the end of the auction, he/she may lose the place as winning bidder, and be at risk for receiving negative feedback and/or a Non-Paying Bidder warning, both of which can ultimately lead to suspension from eBay.
