Very Old Queens & Co. Transit mounted over a Compass. On the face of the compass is says (Queens & Co. Maker ...6355 Phila). The Scope part is about 10-3/4 inches long closed all the way.You can adjust both ends of the scope part ,The part that goes next to your eye has to be pulled out with your fingers, The other side has a knob to turn .From the bottom to the top of the whole thing it is about 13-1/4 inches high not including the wood base. There are 3 bubble glass things , 2 are on the compass part and the other is under the scope part. The bubble holder under the scope is about7-1/4 inches long. One of the bubble holders on the compass is about 2-1/2 inches long the other one on the compass is about 2 inches long. Also on the compass part next to the bubble holders is some type of gauges. The compass face is about 5-3/4 inches across ,The whole compass including the bubble holders and gauges is about 7-3/4 inches across,The compass has an adjustment knob that locks the needle down so that it does not move. Also Has lots of other knobs to adjust things.Made of Brass with some type of Bluing? or something on it,does not look like Paint. All Knobs turn freely. Can see the crosshairs very good. The compass looks like it works good also. The transit unscrews from the wooden base and screws onto the tripod. The tripod is about 56 inches long and is very strudy. The wooden box is about 16-1/4 inches high and about12-1/2 inches deep and about 9-1/2 inches wide. The box is chiped etc.needs a little work but very strong. All the above needs a good dusting and cleaning ,I am not sure how old this is but someone told me that Queens & Co. sold out or closed up in the early 1900's and another company now owns them under a different name. The Pictures I have taken of the face of the compass do not show the Letters Very well, but you can see them good when you see it for real. The Transit compass Instrument is in very good condition. Please scroll down for lots more pictures.
