Description
ANTIQUE, TURN-OF-THE-CENTURY (CIRCA 1900) BRASS SURVEYOR'S COMPASS!!! Made by W. & L.E. Gurley of Troy NY. Manufacturer's name engraved on silvered brass dial. Compass is intact, although has been used over the years. Glass is unbroken. Body of compass appears to be brass. Has cardinal points and decorative North Star. Outside of compass has darkened with age. Compass body is approximately 5 3/4" diameter. Two folding brass vanes are each 4 1/2" high. Some oxidation on brass vanes, but could probably be cleaned. Two original bubble levels are on compass. Blued steel compass needle, complete with caging device. Comes with a 58" long jakestaff (hardwood pole with a point at lower end and a balljoint swivel at the top for the compass). Old leather case for the compass. Items are in used condition (probably 100 years old), but functional. First scan shows top of compass with vanes folded, in order to fit on scanner. The two vanes fold out to be perpendicular with the face of the compass. Second scan is an attempt to get a close-up of the degress on the dial. The third scan is the front of the compass' leather case. The fourth scan is the brass swivel top of the jakestaff. If the winning bidder resides within a 50 mile driving radius of Seattle, WA, I would offer to hand deliver the items. Reserve is 285.00. U.S. & CANADIAN BIDDERS ONLY, PLEASE. Be sure to ask questions BEFORE bidding! Buyer pays S/H/I. Payment must be received within 7 days of the end of the auction. Money orders ONLY. Good luck bidding!!
