Description

This is a wonderful ORIGINAL,early AMERICAN surveying device,manufactured by W.&L.E.GURLEY,TROY,NEW YORK;which is engraved on the sterling plate.I do not know the exact age of this instrument;but it has original card in the box that reads established ca. 1845.This device has a compass of 6-3/4" diameter.There is a vernier that appears to turn right or left 20 degrees.Two level bubbles are 90 degrees to each other for leveling.Sighting has peephole on one side ,and other one for lining up sight;there are different sightings for stadia reading;with scale[reading distances on a rod].All functions are in working condition,and all original. Size across top; in total is 15 inches.The hand dovetailed mahogany case comes with leather strap and advertising card;in original finish.The amazing thing is it has its original mounting pole-base. The pole has a brass mounting bracket that swivils up and down.This is a wonderful oppertunity to acquire a unique AMERICAN instrument,right out of a house in CONN.
