Description

This is a surveyors compass of found inside a building in Juno Alaska. From the looks of the tag that was found with it, it must have been used by a person from the "US Public Survetors Office". The wood carrying case measures 8 X 16 inches and 12 1/2 inches tall. The box is held closed by a leather strap, but also has a lock, but no key. The original inside makers paper label is still in place and reads "W. & L.E. Gurley Established 1845 Manfacturers of Civil Engineers Surveyors Instruments Troy, New York". The compass is a massive item that measures 14 1/2 inches wide, and 13 inches tall. The only damage I can see is the glass on the compass has a crack. Not a big issue to repai, as the cover comes off with the removal of 8 little screws. The levels have the bobble still in tack. I do not see any missing parts from what I know about it, but see photos for a close up inspection. No repairs to any of the brass hardware! This is a very hard to find item, and will somehow be sold at the end of this auction. If my reserve is not met, I will only consider offers from the high bidder, or those who bid in the auction befor it closed. High bidder to pay $20.00 for shipping and handling to any US address. I accept payment by Money Order, Bidpay, Personal Check, and Cash. Sorry, no PAYPAL payments. Winning bidders with more than one auction will have a reduction in shipping charges. Buyers requesting Insurance or shipping outside the US will pay extra. I am not responsible for uninsured packages that are lost or damaged. I will send out invoices for this auction within 24 hours of the close. Indiana residents must pay 5% sales tax on final bid amount, or provide copy of your resale tax ID document.
