Description
This would be a neat reference for anyone who likes/collects vintage instruments or enjoys vintage catalogs. This is a cloth-bound, hardback catalogue from 1913.Titled “Catalogue of Keuffel & Esser Co.” of New York-General Office & factories-Hoboken, NJ with branches in Chicago. St .Louis, San Francisco, Montreal. This company was a manufacturer and importer of drawing materials, surveying instruments and measuring tapes. The title page is in color showing different medals and awards the company received form various world expositions. There are various copyrights for the catalogue beginning with 1897 through 1913, the date of this catalogue. There is a note saying it was copyrighted to prevent competitors from using their illustrations and presenting them as their goods. This is a 34th edition of the catalogue. The frontispiece is a black and white drawing of the general office and factories of Hoboken, NJ completed in 1907.Next are photos or drawings of branch offices. There are 566 pages in the catalogue including a very detailed index. Many, many (hundreds or more) kinds of tools and measuring instruments are pictured and described in great detail. Some of the illustrations are in color. All are quite detailed. How about a self registering tide gauge? Or an aneroid barometer, mining lamp and plummet or a heliograph? There are some nice color plates inside as well. There are a few insert pages (bound into the book) for additions. The number of items and the details are amazing! The covers are an orange cloth with rounded corners. The page edges are rounded as well. There is only slight wear on the cover but it has some light to moderate grime. The back cover has a slight ˝”wrinkle in the cloth. The front cover, top right corner is slightly bumped. The inside cover has light grime. The interior page are faintly yellowed. The back inside cover paper and the last few pages have an almost ˝” slit along the hinge. The binding is tight and secure. Shipping is 3.60 1st class. PAY PAL accepted. For other older paper items, please see our other auctions. Thanks!
