Description
Here is a nice old Gurley Transit,Wood carrying box and Tripod. The box is dovetailed measures 15" high 12 5/8" wide by 8 7/8" deep, the leathter carry strap is gone,just the ends are still attached to the case. There is a card inside that reads established 1845 W. & L.E. Gurley Manufactures of Civil Engineer and Surveyors Instruments. Troy NY USA. Another telling about stadia Measurements.Outside of the box has the intials,AS stenciled on it. The transit is made of brass and stands just over 12" high, the telescope part of it measures 11 1/2" long, there are 3 levels on it all in working condition, I don't know anything about these but it all does seem to be in working order all screws knobs etc turn freely. The 2 levels by the dial measure 2 3/4" the one under the scope is almost 6 1/2". The compass dial is 5 7/8" across, reads W & L E Grundy Troy NY. and there is some sort of measuring unit on the base of the compass dial(photo)has 0 in the middle and 10 20 30 on each side. The tripod is wood one of the metal bands on a leg says Leupold Portland Ore. The tripod Measures, 44"and is adjustable to higher heights. with brass and metal hardware.
