Description |
This is a very rare "transit compass" or "vernier transit" made in the 1870's. It is the LARGEST (six inch needle) telescopic compass made by Gurley. It is signed on the compass face in fancy script: "W. & L.E. Gurley Troy, New York". It has an EXTERNAL variation plate to set off the magnetic declination. The variation pinion and locking knobs as well as the compass needle arrestor knob are located under the 9" diameter plate. This early model was designed to be used on a stud mount, like other large compasses, rather than a levellng head. The original box (included with the Gurley label on the lid) has the brass stud mount in place in it's corner retainer. The original sunshade is also included. This fine instrument is in excellent working condition. Buyer pays actual shipping and insurance charges, to be determined after close of auction. Payment by money order preferred.

If you're the seller or the high bidder - now what?
Details for the seller and high bidder(s):
The seller should contact the
winning bidder(s) with information on the total cost, including shipping, and
where to send payment. The winning bidder(s) must pay the seller directly for
the item(s), and it is the seller's responsibility to fulfill the order when
payment terms are met. The binding contract of the auction is between the
winning bidder and the seller.
If the seller is unable to establish contact with the high bidder within 3 business days of the end of the auction, he/she may lose the place as winning bidder, and be at risk for receiving negative feedback and/or a Non-Paying Bidder warning, both of which can ultimately lead to suspension from eBay.
