Description

This is a W&LE Gurley surveyors compass with case and tripod. I believe that this is about 1850's vintage. Both bubble levels are still functional and the compass does work. The lacquer has become worn and some of the brass is tarnished. The blued steel pointer has a little surface rust on it and the silver plate on the face has worn off in places. The engraving is excellent and W&LE Gurley is in script on the face. Both sighting arms are there as are the hand wheels that lock them in.Th cover glass has no scratches and the brass cover plate is included. I don't know if anything is missing, but there is a small hole on the top of one of the sides with an indention in the top cover that looks like in might have captured some small part.There is some sort of brass adapter that accepts the ball head to maybe adapt it to another tripod. Everything seems to work and with a little cleaning this would be a beautiful instrument for the collector. The tripod works, but has a couple of pieces of wood missing up around where the legs join the base.One of the legs has been broken and glued in a couple of places. Also included is a monster plumb bob abount 4.5 inches tall and almost 2 inches in diameter. No reserve and buyer pays actual shipping charges only. Thanks for looking.
