C.L. Berger & Sons Transit with
Tripod | |
Antique C. L. Berger &
Sons model 7946, A-Frame Surveying Transit in
wood carrying case with original Tripod. Made in
Boston, U.S.A. and Pat'd April 28th 1896. This
Antique Brass Transit was recently purchased out
of the Tremper estate in Missoula, Montana.
Transit looks to be fully intact with everything
in working order. Looking through lens all
recticals inside look to be good and optics are
sparkling clear. All bubble levelers are intact
and working as are all the adjustment knobs.
Compass inside A-Frame is intact and works good.
Transit has a knob that you turn to lock or
release the compass. Has original lens cap and
hood. All numbers and dials are still very
readable and all glass is in excellent shape.
Wood carrying case is in great shape with a very
nice patina. Inside wood case is the original
C.L. Berger & Sons Plumb Bob still hanging
inside the door with a small magnifying glass.
When you unscrew Transit from base inside case,
transit has a chain on the underside to hang
Plumb bob from. Has C.L. Berger & Sons paper
labels on inside of case. Transit has been very
well taken care of and has a tag inside box
showing it was serviced by Lietz in San
Francisco in 1968. Also comes with the original
wood tripod with metal C.L. Berger & Sons
cover that screws on over the top of Transit
mount threads. On the tripod five of the six
nuts the adjuster screws go into have been
welded back on and one leg has a vertical crack
part way down center of leg that was glued back
together (Look at picture, you can see it). Both
repairs are very old ones. This is one of the
nicest and most complete transits I've seen -
don't miss the opportunity to bid on this great
