Description

W. & L.E. GURLEY SURVEYORS' BRASS TRANSIT

EVERYTHING I BELEIVE IS SOLID BRASS. THE CARD YOU SEE IN THE LEFT HAND CORNER CAME IN THE BOX AND READS - ESTABLISHED 1845, W. & L.E. GURLEY, MANUFCTURERS OF CIVIL ENGINEERS' AND SURVEYORS' INSTRUMENTS, TROY, N.Y. U.S.A. NO CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE PITNA OF THE INSTRUMENTS OR ON THE WOOD OF THE BOX.

SOME OF THE STOREAGE COMPARTMENTS HAVE COME UNGLUED. EVEN THE LEVELS ARE BRASS. THE ROUND COMPASS PROTECTOR IN THE CENTER REMOVES AND SHOW A 6 INCH COMPASS.

THE COMPASS IS A WONDERFUL VINTAGE PIECE. IN THE CENTER IS A VINE WITH A FLOWER FOR SOUTH AND THE #164 JUST BELOW THE NORTH SYMBOL.

THE SCOPE MEASURES 8.75 INCHES. THE TOTAL TRANSIT LENGTH IS 20 INCHES. BELOW THE SCOPE ON THE MOUNTING BRACKET IS ENGRAVED WITH - W. & L.E. GURLEY, TROY NEW YORK.

THE BOX MEASURES 7.5 INCHES WIDE BY 16.25 LONG. REMLETS OF THE OLD STRAPES ARE STILL ON EACH SIDE. THE FINISH APPEARS TO HAVE WORN OFF AND THERE IS NO KEY FOR THE BOX. I DON'T REALLY KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE INSTRUMENT SO PLEASE EMAIL WITH ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING. I WILL TRY TO ANSWER THEM, IF YOU GIVE ME DIRECTIONS. WOULD MAKE A NICE GIFT OR ITEM FOR ANY SURVEOR, ENGINEER OR COLLECTOR.

If you're the seller or the high bidder - now what?

  1. Contact each other. The seller (beach420) and the high bidder (cphardin) should contact each other within three business days to discuss payment and shipping details.

  2. Leave feedback for the other party once the the seller has received the payment and the winning bidder has received the item.
Leave feedback to seller - Leave feedback to bidder.

Details for the seller and high bidder(s):
The seller should contact the winning bidder(s) with information on the total cost, including shipping, and where to send payment. The winning bidder(s) must pay the seller directly for the item(s), and it is the seller's responsibility to fulfill the order when payment terms are met. The binding contract of the auction is between the winning bidder and the seller.

If the seller is unable to establish contact with the high bidder within 3 business days, the seller may contact the next highest bidder. Therefore, if the high bidder does not contact the seller within 3 business days of the end of the auction, he/she may lose the place as winning bidder, and be at risk for receiving negative feedback and/or a Non-Paying Bidder warning, both of which can ultimately lead to suspension from eBay.
