Description
This well-preserved all-brass geodetic instrument was made by Hildebrand, vormals Lingke, in Germany, but supplied to the wellknown Dutch instrumentmakers Kipp & Zonen,Giltay, who were active from 1880 till 1912. Before and after this period Kipp & Zonen existed and still exists, but Giltay was only present during the period mentioned. Kipp & Zonen,Giltay used to export an important number of various instruments to the old colonies. The instrument is very heavy and weighs 4 kg without case.(There is no case available). The compass has a diameter of not less than 5-1/4 inches and shows a beautiful, silvered dial with a heigthened edge, provided with clear divisions 0 - 360, with figures every 10 degrees. Slim, blued needle with solid blocking mechanism. The telescope has a length of 10-1/2 inches, the rack - and - pinion - movement works well and the view is still bright. The crosslines (originally cross-spiderthread) have disappeared, but I can tell you how to renew them if you can find a good web of such a spider in the surroundings of your home. The telescope has a characteristic, old fashioned sight and even the cap, protecting the objective, is still there. The vertical circle has a diameter of ca. 6-1/4 inches and the clear divisions are directly on the brass. The compass is mounted on a sturdy plateau and can be rotated by means of a micrometerscrew and blocked with the clampscrew. On the plateau you also find the tubular bubble and under this bubble a cylindrical counterweight has been mounted to keep the instrument in good balance. The base is provided with 3 footscrews. Though I think this description is pretty complete all remaining questions will be gladly answered. Thank you for looking at this treasure and seize the opportunity if you look for something very special !! (The reserve-price has been kept moderate) Payment: Preferably by wire to my account 1621025993 at the Rabo Bank, 2e Hogeweg 83, 3701 AW Zeist, the Netherlands. Bank code 3752 RABO.nl.2U All other methods of payment cause extra costs for seller and apart from that a considerable delay in the shipment of the goods. Shipping: internationally Costs of packing and shipping for buyer: $ 45.00
