Description |
Founded in 1871, BERGER INSTRUMENTS was a Boston, Massachusetts based manufacturer of high quality surveying instruments. My father, Donald Dodge was the Vice President of Berger until his retirement in 1986. He gave me several items over the years, one of which is this original 1901 "Handbook and Illustrated Catalogue" which had been the personal property of Lewis H. Berger, the son of BERGER's founder, C. L. Berger. The front of the catalogue has, written in ink, the words "Property of Lewis H. Berger", followed by what was apparently his home address. The catalogue is in good shape for its age, but the front and back covers have cracked in two and are held together with tape. I've been told by an expert dealer in antique surveying instruments (with whom I communicated via e-mail with photos) that because of it's history, this catalogue should bring AT LEAST $200.00. I've been having trouble posting photos on e-bay, but I'll be happy to send photos to anyone desiring them -- just e-mail me!
