Copper Plate Print Block For
Surveyors at Work Scene
Buff Instrument Company Catalog

I acquired this copper plate printing block in a lot of Buff items that came from the estate of Buff's Chief Engineer. Included were catalogs, emblems, and two other print blocks; one for a Buff transit and the other one was for a K&E tape.

This printer's block was used in printing a Buff catalog. The block has a scene of surveyors at work. The surveyor in the foreground is on a tower with the instrument sighting downline at another man with a stadia board. On the left side of the block are two other men, one recording the notes, the other appears to be standing by with a bag full of gear. Judging from the hats and necktie, I would guess this to be about 1930. The printer's block measures 9" x 6 3/4" x 15/16" thick.

This is a difficult item to photograph. The block is in very good to excellent condition. This is a one of a kind item from my personal collection of surveying memorabilia. The three blocks that I have are the only ones that I have ever run across. This would be a great addition to the land surveying or civil engineering collection memorabilia, a must for the serious collector. What a great gift for your favorite civil engineer or land surveyor.
