C.1825 W.L. Potts Bucks County Pennsylvania Vernier Compass.From an estate comes a fantastic find, a rare Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Vernier Compass Suryeyors Compass, solid brass. These were used to lay out full scale villages.This particular one is made by W.L. Potts and Benjamin Rittenhouse, who were partners in making compasses in Philadelphia,durning 1820-1825.This one is very simular in worksmanship and design as the Potts and Rittenhouse Vernier Compass,in the Gurley Museum in Troy, New York.This compass is in very good condition and is in a pine box made especially for it.The compass measures 13 1/2" and is a one level vial with a 5" needle.Selling as found, in its original untouched condition, have not cleaned.A beautiful historical museum quality compass.
