"A Compendious System of Practical Surveying, and Dividing of Land: Concisely Defined, Methodically Arranged, and Fully Exemplified. The Whole Adapted for the Easy and Regular Instruction of Youth, in Our American Schools," compiled by Zachariah Jess, published by Johnson and Warner (Philadelphia) in 1814 (deposited in November 1813), second edition, 5.25" x 9" hardcover (full leather on boards, title plate on the spine), 227 pages plus 154 pages of tables, illustrated with drawings.
According to a publisher's note dated 1814, this edition "has been much improved, with additions made by T. Hamilton of Philadelphia; and the whole carefully examined and corrected by S. Hilles of Wilmington."
Condition is good. Pages are clean and the binding and hinges are sound. The front free end paper and any fore matter have been removed (the book opens to the title page). A heavy object apparently pressed against the fore edge of the text block, as about 70 pages have some creasing and bending at their fore edges. The covers are slightly splayed at the fore edges. Covers have extremity wear, scuffs, and rubs. A previous owner's name is written on the inside of the front cover.
The Fine Print
The winning bidder should NOT use eBay's Request Total Amount to contact me. Barring unforeseen events, I will send a notification within 24 hours. If you don't receive a notification, please contact me directly through my e-mail address.
Buyer pays actual shipping costs. Also, I request insurance on all items with a high bid of $50 or more.
I accept personal checks and money orders (including BidPay); I do not accept PayPal or credit cards. Non-U.S. buyers (including Canadian buyers) must pay in U.S. funds.
I will not under any circumstances close an auction early to facilitate a private sale. eBay bidders always get first dibs.
Before sending me an e-mail about my policies, please read my eBay FAQ; it answers most queries regarding methods of payment, shipping costs and insurance, returns and refunds, feedback, and other topics. I'm usually away from my computer on weekends, so if you have a question about an auction that's closing on Sunday night, please get it to me by Friday afternoon.
