Description

This auction is for an authentic original Wm Ainsworth & Sons Transit Level. This lot includes the following items, 1-Original transit level w/ what appears to be a sun lense and cap. Everything appears to be operational on the transit. Compass works fine, there is no broken glass. It just needs some good polishing. 2-Original wood carrying box with leather handle on the top. This houses the transit. There is a sliding wood plate at the bottom of the wood box which screws tight to the transit and keeps the transit secure during movement. This tray can be slid out of the wood carrying box and then the transit can be removed for use. There is also a little shelf attached to the door of the box which facilitates different tools for adjustment and maintenance of the transit. The tools that I still have will be included. They are an old original small screwdriver and original oiling canister used to lubricate parts. This wooden carrying case also has a lock. I do not have the key, but it does also have a clasp which keeps the box closed. Original stickers are attached to the door of the box. 3-The original tripod is included with this set of instruments. It is made out of wood and metal (I think brass). There are a few minor screws missing, but the tripod is perfectly operational and looks very nice with the transit is attached. The tripod screws into the transit. One of the sides of one of the legs has been broken. There has been some electrical tape wrapped around it to hold it secure. Again, this does not affect operation or stability of the tripod. 4-I am also including an original steel tape and reel with this lot. The tape is quite rusty and needs to be polished with some oil but is in good shape considering its age. This item is not an original antique transit with acessories. This is an old item for collectors who will take care of it. All items in this listing are in very good condition for their age, normal wear expected.
