AMERICAN, circa 1870, signed, "W. & L. E. Gurley, Troy, N.Y.",
with number 52 on the box & transit in severa; places, featuring
an 8" base plate, with a 5 3/4" compass with a silvered face, two
bubble levels in good working order, verniers, and a 5" needle, dual
rack and pinon focusing for the cross hairs and for the objective on
a 12" telescope, standing 12" high, all brass construction, complete
with it's carrying case(most of the strap is missing) and 58" high
original brass fitted wood tripod, both in very good condition. The
only problem I see is one of the thumb screw heads has snapped of at
the very last thread(see picture), I have the screw, I am sure it
can be reattached or replaced. The instrument is with its box
measuring 13" x 9" x 15", in very solid shape, including both
catches and the lock (no key). It retains its lens shade & plumb
bob, marked 12 STANDARD. The instrument has obtained a very nice
patina. The compass dial is in very good condition showing great
detail in the engraving and shininess in the silver. I have tried to
describe the transit to the best of my ability. I AM NOT A EXPERT IN
THIS FIELD & PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS.
