Description

Listed is a rare, 19th century, brass, J.T.HOBBY, surveyor's transit measuring 12 inches tall. The telescope is 10 inches long. Most of the original, black paint is intact but there is paint loss and wear that should be evident in the photos. I can find no metal damage or missing parts. The glass and decorative face plate beneath are in excellent condition. All glass levels are fully intact and appear to be in working order. Unfortunately, I have no experience in using a transit so I cannot comment with any confidence on the optics. All the lenses are in place and when I look through I can focus on items in the distance. I'll try an to answer any questions that you may have on this subject. The original box has general, age and use related wear. Finish is original. The door has been damaged and reglued at the bottom hinge. Door is secure and works fine. One of the interior plumb bob holders has been repaired as well. The closure latch on the exterior of the door has been added some time ago. This instrument is in as found condition directly from a local estate and has never been offered for sale before today.
