	Description

~ EARLY SALA MOUNTAIN TRANSIT ~


	A vintage 1880's - 1900 (+ -) ' MOUNTAIN TRANSIT '. This instrument is made by ' J.C. SALA - SAN FRANCISCO'. 12 inches high to the top of the circle - telescope is 7 3/4 inches. Nicely furnished with the original adjustable leg oak tripod; oak tripod thread cover (chipped - see photo); adjusting screwdriver; magnifyer; mahogony case; brass sun shade and plumb bob. Noting the loss of one of the two white venier cover/shade on one side of the horizontal plate. Some losses / deterioration to the original lacquer and the crosshairs are gone. Otherwise a very nice instrument - needle lock works, telescope takes a good focus via rack and pinion (optics are a bit dusty). Another nice feature is the matching numbers on the instrument and tripod / thread cover. Case has a two maker labels still attached inside. A desireable addition to any scentific or surveying collection.
