Description

A System of Geometry and Trigonometry, with a Treatise on Surveying
The Eighth Edition, with Alterations and Amendments adapted to the Use of American Surveyors
Comprising Various Methods of Taking the Survey of a Field, with Directions for Protracting and Finding Areas: in Which, Also, the
Principles of Rectangular Surveying, by Which Areas may be Accurately Calculated without Plotting, are Fully Explained
by Abel Flint, with Improvements by George Gillett, Surveyor General of Connecticut, Sixth Edition, Hartford, 1830

This is an improved version of Flint's Surveying containing 122 pages of text and 162 pages of tables. Flint's Survey was one of the most popular American surveying text during the first part of the 19th century. The treatise was designed to be self-teaching with but little assistance from an instructor. It is about simple metes and bounds land surveying with the compass and chain. It does not include details about other types of land or engineering surveying. The 100 foot chain is not even mentioned. One of the purposes of the book was to help surveyors in Connecticut qualify under a new state law that required practitioners to become more familiar with surveying theory than was previously necessary.
A book review of the work appears in the website of The Compleat Surveyor. Click here for the Flint Book Review

The book is complete and the binding intact although the hinges and edges are scuffed, particularly the rear hinge as shown in the picture. There is foxing to the interior pages.

California residents/recipients add 7.25% sales tax. Domestic book rate shipping where available is $2.00. Insurance, priority mail or international shipping is available at extra cost. Insurance is optional although recommended as seller will not be responsible for lost, damaged or misdirected packages once mailed. Cashier's check or money order preferred for faster shipping. Personal check OK but item held until check clears. Search words: survey, surveyor, surveying, level, chain, plumb.

Details for the seller and high bidder(s):
The seller should contact the winning bidder(s) with information on the total cost, including shipping, and where to send payment. The winning bidder(s) must pay the seller directly for the item(s), and it is the seller's responsibility to fulfill the order when payment terms are met. The binding contract of the auction is between the winning bidder and the seller.

If the seller is unable to establish contact with the high bidder within 3 business days of the end of the auction, he/she may lose the place as winning bidder, and be at risk for receiving negative feedback and/or a Non-Paying Bidder warning, both of which can ultimately lead to suspension from eBay.
