Description
This is an old surveyors compass, in great shape. Has all original equipment with the exception of the tripod. Owned and used in 1906-09 by L.E. Tripp, a Montana licensed surveyor, to establish boundary lines for homesteaders in the Pinkham Creek, Kootenai and Yaak areas of northwestern Montana. Also used by Joseph Tetrault , surveyor,to re-run sections of the national boundary between the United States and Canada. Later used to run lines on old Blackfeet, Kootenai and Fortine National Forests. In the 1930's and 40's mainly used to check lines on property exchanges. Winner to pay s/h.
