Description
A Treatise on Practical Surveying

By Robert Gibson. Revised, corrected, and adapted for the use of Schools, American Surveyors, &c, by John D. Craig.

Published in Baltimore by Lucas, Cushing and Jewett, 1822. Third American edition of this classic work. (First published in England in the 18th century.)

A guide to surveying, “which is demonstrated from its first principles; wherein every thing that is useful and curious in that art is considered and explained.”

Bound together with:

Mathematical Tables ...

With a separate title page ... Published in Baltimore by Fielding Lucas, Jr., 1819.

Surveying tables of the “difference of latitude and departure; logarithms, from 1 to 10,000; artificial sines, tangents and secants.”

The two works are paginated separately. 326 pages and 152 pages. Illustrated by text diagrams, wood-cut illustrations, charts and tables.

Contemporary binding of full leather. Red leather spine label, lettered in gilt. This is a well-worn book that show its age. Some loss of leather at the spine ends. Covers are loose and only weakly attached by the binding cords. Text pages are browned and foxed (spotted), occasionally quite heavily. 1833 ownership signature(s) of Wm. R. Pratt.

On the plus side, the book is complete and intact. The text block is still tight, with no loose or missing pages. All text is legible, despite the aging of the paper. Leather has been freshly treated with professional-grade conditioner.

The winning bidder(s) must pay the seller directly for the item(s), and it is the seller's responsibility to fulfill the order when payment terms are met. The binding contract of the auction is between the winning bidder and the seller.
