Description

Charles Smart's Classic Volume on American Surveying Instruments

This is a first edition copy of "The Makers of Surveying Instruments in America Since 1700" by Charles E. Smart, 1962, 6.2" x 9.3", with 182 pages. Smart was then Chairman of the Board of Directors of the W. & L.E. Gurley Co., Troy, N.Y. A second volume to this book was published in 1967 and Mr. Smart died in 1973. His treatise is highly regarded by both collectors and historians as the standard reference work in the field. Despite several attempts by various individuals to have the book reprinted this is unlikely to occur due to copyright problems. The book is in very good condition noting it is ex lib and there is some light soiling to the cloth cover. There are three locations where the former library identification occurs. There is a small area on the reverse side of the title page where catalog numbers appear and they also appear handwritten in fine black ink on the outer spine. Inside the back cover are pasted a due date slip and a half-envelope for the checkout card. No stamps of markings are located to any of the text.

California residents add 7.25% sales tax. Cashier's check or money order preferred for quicker shipment. A personal check is OK but item will be held for check to clear. Additional search words: compass, transit, level, plumb, theodolite, alidade, survey, surveying, surveyor.

Details for the seller and high bidder(s):
The seller should contact the winning bidder(s) with information on the total cost, including shipping, and where to send payment. The winning bidder(s) must pay the seller directly for the item(s), and it is the seller's responsibility to fulfill the order when payment terms are met. The binding contract of the auction is between the winning bidder and the seller.

If the seller is unable to establish contact with the high bidder within 3 business days of the end of the auction, he/she may lose the place as winning bidder, and be at risk for receiving negative feedback and/or a Non-Paying Bidder warning, both of which can ultimately lead to suspension from eBay.
