Description
W.C. DAVIS, N. Y., SURVEYING COMPASS, 1840-50s

Here is a prize for the serious collector of antique surveying instruments - a very seldom encountered, mid-1800s surveyors compass, offered with no reserve. I will let the current market determine its value.

Outstanding condition for its age with a 14 1/2 inch plate, 5 7/8 inch compass box, 4 7/8 inch flat needle with wire wound balance, beautifully engraved silvered face and raised degree ring with Warranted appearing under the North fleur de lis and W.C. Davis, New York appearing on a straight line just above South. The degree ring is calibrated to 30 minutes. The ornate floral engraved ring around the center is truly a work of art. The needle lifter is operated with a brass knob on the underside and there is a staff mounting bracket. The active spirit levels are each 2 1/2 inches and working. All is as it should be except for the sight vane wires which are present but need tightening, and two of the five small screws on the underside which affix the compass box to the plate have been lost. There is no case - sorry.

MY TERMS: If I have left anything out or if you have any questions, please email me before bidding, allowing sufficient time for a reply. I will answer you if I can. Buyer pays shipping costs, insurance and the cost of professional packing if requested. I will make contact immediately after auction closes and expect an email confirmation within 24 hours - receipt of payment within 7 business days. M/O gets immediate shipment. Checks must clear unless I am satisfied with Buyers feedback. Auction may be cancelled if eBay malfunctions in last 2 hours of sale. Please do not bid unless you intend to complete the transaction on these terms. Please, no international sale except Canada - I’ve had too many problems elsewhere. GOOD LUCK BIDDING.

Details for the seller and high bidder(s):
The seller should contact the winning bidder(s) with information on the total cost, including shipping, and where to send payment. The winning bidder(s) must pay the seller directly for the item(s), and it is the seller's responsibility to fulfill the order when payment terms are met. The binding contract of the auction is between the winning bidder and the seller.

If the seller is unable to establish contact with the high bidder within 3 business days of the end of the auction, he/she may lose the place as winning bidder, and be at risk for receiving negative feedback and/or a Non-Paying Bidder warning, both of which can ultimately lead to suspension from eBay.
