Description |
*******SEVEN DAY AUCTION******* AN UN COMMON HELLER & BRIGHTLY SURVEYING TRANSIT. This nice early TRANSIT is c. 1890 and made by "HELLER & BRIGHTLY" of "PHILADELPHIA." The top sighting tube bubble level has a few cracks in same and is lacking all fluid. The other LEVELS are fine. The COMPASS face is nicely engraved and the COMPASS NEEDLE and LIFTER work fine. The TELESCOPE TUBE is 11 1/2" CLOSED. The over-all height is 13 1/2". The COMPASS FACE diameter is 4 1/2". All other adjustments are working fine as well. There are a few nicks to the mounting collar along the grasp knurlings in one area - see below. The two screw stops are lacking on each side of the main vernier on the one upright. There is no carry case and no tripod - just the TRANSIT. The COMPASS FACE is ENGRAVED IN SCRIPT: "HELLER & BRIGHTLY - MAKERS - 6445 - PHILADELPHIA" The instrument has seen field use, and exhibits a general dark patina. Nothing is bent and over-all the piece is in rather good shape. The instrument has a SERIAL NUMBER of "6445." FOR THE SERIOUS TRANSIT AND SURVEYING COLLECTOR! Checks may have upto 14 day bank clearance while cert. bank checks or m.o. will enjoy immediate dispatch of goods. Lucky buyer pays postage and insurance. Payment due within 7 days of auction end.
