Description
You are bidding on a wonderful signed oil on canvas painting entitled "The Last P.I." I'm assuming that P.I. stands for Property Inspector. The old gentleman in the painting stands with his smoking pipe, before an old transit, paper in his hand and a monogrammed axe on his belt with the initials "J. C." on the blade. The transit sits atop a barely together tripod, the legs held up with rope. A straw hat covers his head. The painting is signed, but I can't really make out the signature, so I've placed a close up of it below. The canvas measures 18" by 24". The painting is in good condition, with some minor rubbing and dirt, but from a few feet back, none of this is evident, and the work looks marvelous. Winning bidder pays $15.00 shipping and insurance in the U.S. Foreign bidders pay actual shipping. Sorry, I don't take Paypal, but I gladly accept Bidpay money orders, if you want to use a credit card for payment. Payment by check (must clear 10 business days) or money order/cashier's check (ships immediately). Feel free to email with any questions. Thanks for looking, and happy bidding!
On Oct-08-00 at 16:11:16 PDT, seller added the following information:

Several kind ebayers have emailed me to let me know the P.I. stands for "Point Of Intersection". Here was one of the emails: "P.I. stands for the "Point of Intersection" of the straight portions (tangents) of a road or railway alignment. Any curves are perpendicular or "tangential" to these lines. When there is no curve, the route simply bends at the P.I. The meaning of the painting is that the surveyor is finally finishing his route survey. It must have been long and arduous work in the wilderness, as he was unable to purchase new trousers or replace his damaged equipment. The surveyor patiently waits to make his last observation, fieldbook in one hand and pipe in the other, with the same relaxed concentration as when he made his first." Thanks for the help all! Rich
