Description

Theodolite Transit Survey Scientific

Really great old US Coast and Geodetic Survey precise theodolite capable of 2nd order surveying. It carries a USC&GS serial no. 400 . Made by the David White Company of Milwaukee it also has the David White Serial No. 10615.The overall instrument height is 15 inches and the length of the scope is 13 inches. This instrument has all sorts of precise adjustment dials and gizmos alon g with electrical hookups for internal illumination of the covered and protected verniers. Wish I knew more about this kind of instrument but am trying to be as descriptive as I can. It comes with the original ( I think ) calibration field test results dated 3/28/40. The calibration notes describe the instrument as " THEODOLITE No. 400 6 1/2"Parkhurst 2nd Order ( White ). " and " Circle No. 26 - Cast Silver " ...This instrument comes with the original carrying case in very good condition and has the plumb bob sun shade and a few adjusting tools. The carrying case has been protected by an outer protective canvas cover.A MASSIVE tripod is also included with the piece.Overall I would say that this instrument is in very good condition, but I am no expert. The optics seem good and there is only a minor amount of paint chipping on the instrument. This item is VERY heavy and it will cost some money to ship. I will have to get the amount prior to completing the deal. There is a very modest reserve on this rare and precise instrument. Happy bidding.
