A SUPERB early 19th century iron and brass surveyor’s or Gunter’s ** land measurement / surveying chain.

This Gunter’s chain measures 4 POLES or one "chain" in length, with 100 iron links (each link connected by three flat oval rings), and measures 22 yards (66 feet) in length. Chain has three in-line swivels, original belt keeper, brass tellers / tallies or tally tabs every 10th link of 1, 2, 3, and 4 notches with the middle tab rounded, and brass "D" shaped swivel handles - each marked "4P". This chain is signed by the maker "CHESTERMAN / SHEFFIELD". I would consider this to be one of the finest collector’s land measurement chain I have offered for sale. A great-looking chain.
(see "19th Century Scientific Instruments", Gerard L. E. Turner, page 260 for a similar example)
This survey chain is in very good original condition, no rust, no pitting on iron, clean and bright, a good well-preserved unused or little used chain. Satisfaction guaranteed.
A great eBay opportunity to add a true early Gunter’s chain to your collection of survey artifacts / instruments OR your dealer inventory.
Successful bidder, please add $9.00 for insured safe delivery within USA, actual cost overseas.
