Description |
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT WORKING INSTRUMENT, WHICH HAS BEEN IN MY FAMILY FOR AT LEAST 50 YEARS. THE CASE IS OF GOOD WOOD AND NEEDS SOME ATTENTION, AS YOU CAN SEE IT PAINTED WHITE. I’M NO RESTORER OF FUNITURE SO I HAVEN’T ATTEMPTED TO REFINISH IT. THE REASON IT IS WHITE IS WHEN I WAS A YOUNG LAD AND ON A VISIT TO AN UNCLE’S FARM MY DAD SURVEYED, THE BOX AND TRIPOD WAS LEFT OUT OF THE TRUCK WHEN WE WENT HOME. AROUND TWO HOURS AND FIFTY MILES OF MOUNTAIN ROADS, DAD WANTED ME TO PUT THE “TRANSIT” UP. I REMEMBERED WHERE WE LEFT IT SO LATER DAD PAINTED THE BOX WHITE AND GAVE ME SEVERAL HARD REASONS NOT TO LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN. THE LEATHER CARRYING STRAP IS IN THE BOX, ALSO THE HOOD FOR THE LENS. THE PLUMB BOB IS AT MY FATHERS PLACE. SINCE HIS DEATH I HAVE NOT GONE TO HIS OLD PLACE MUCH. I WILL FIND THE PLUMB BOB NEXT TRIP THERE. BRASS AND WHAT LOOKS TO BE SILVER CONSTRUCTION. OPTICAL LENGTH IS APPROX. 11-1/4” LONG, IN THE CLOSED POSITION. THE EXTENDED LENGTH IS 12-3/8” INCHES. OVERAL HEIGTH IS 11-1/2“, DEGREE WHEEL IS 3-1/2” DIA. THE OPTIC TUBE IS 1-1/1” DIA., BASE IS 8-3/4’ IN DIA. AND THE ENGRAVED COMPASS DIAL IS APPROX. 7’’INCHES DIA. THE OPTIC LEVEL BUBBLE IS APPROX. 6-1/2” LINCHES LONG. THERE ARE TWO BASE LEVEL BUBBLES ARE APPROX. 2-3/4” INCHES LONG. MULTPLE ADJUSTMENTS ALL MARKED IN DEGREES. BOX HAS LABLE,W.&L.E GURLEY’S MANUFACTORY EST. 1845. I HAVE SEEN A BOX LIKE THIS BUT NOT AN INSTRUMENT. I SAW IN ANOTHER AUCTION A BOX LOOKING WHAT THIS SHOULD, WITH THE SAME WRITING IN SIDE. TRIPOD IS IN GOOD CONDITION, ONE OF THE LOCKING WINGNUTS IS MISSING. THANX FOR VIEWING THIS AUCTION, THERE IS A LOT OF REAL NICE COLLECTABLES; I HAVE ONLY JUST BEGUN. THERE IS 5 PHOTOS. EMAIL AT: fturbyfill@aol.com SHIPPING IS ACTUAL COST.
