Description
This is an all brass K&E Transit #5826. The design of this model says it's an old one! But I can't pinpoint a date. Its untouched with it's original patina...That's the way I like to find them. But I can just imagine how impressive this would look with the brass polished out. Especially with all that interesting detail. I love those outriggers. It's a feature I've never seen before. It also gives the instrument a nice added complexity. This scope also has a surprising number adjustments. It focuses perfectly. The glass bubble level is intact. The kit comes with a unique triangular base, a plumb, Brass hood and 3 other small parts. There is also a well used finger jointed case. The case has a leather strap. It also has a unique piece of period advertising in it. There is a brass plaque affixed to the top. "Repaired by THE J.G. ULMER Co... Engineering Instruments... Cleveland, Ohio". The scope without hood measures 12" the outrigger handles span 8". There's a very LOW RESERVE on this item. Bookmark my ID. I will be placing a large collection of good early Radios, Edisons, Kaleidoscopes, Scientific devices & tubes, RR lanterns, Nautical, industrial, microscopes, charts, etc. The list goes on and on. There will be a steady stream of great stuff.
On Sep-23-00 at 04:33:19 PDT, seller added the following information:

This is what is called an "architects" or "convertible" Wye Level. It was used on building sites and could convert from a straight Wye level (for shooting grades only) to a transit (for shooting elevations). Those "outriggers" should fit cross ways into the two clamps that you opened to remove the telescope. When you "convert" it like that, you have a transit for siting vertical angles.
