This is a very nice looking 13 inch plain compass made by E & G.W. Blunt around 1840. The Blunt brothers were in business together for many years, so it is hard to pinpoint an exact date.
The compass comes in its original box. The staff adapter, sight vanes and thumbscrews all look original to me. The staff adapter is missing its thumbscrew however.
The needle is 5.25 inches long and the sight vanes are 6 inch tall. The compass is Serial number 115
This compass would look very nice out on display.
