Circa 1885 Gurley Solar Compass with scope. Purchased from the Great Grandson of US Deputy Surveyor George James (1859-1925). Likely used by George James to survey government lands in the state of Washington from 1890 to 1892.

Circa 1845 Whitcomb Solar Compass. My dad owned this instrument for years, but sold it to a good friend in the early 1990s. When his friend passed away, we helped the estate find a good home for this nice instrument.
Circa 1860 to 1880 solar compass made by Fennel in Germany. The only known foreign made solar compass. Now on exhibit at the California Railroad Museum in Sacramento.
