This is a very interesting wood compass with a unique form factor that Dale owned for years.
The compass has a brass compass box with a hand printed compass card. The printing on the card, although a bit faded by the passage of time, is wonderful. Take a look at the pic below - note the delicate but very fine lines. Note especially the crescent moon with a face on it at the North Point.
The maker invested many hours in making this compass, and the quality of the workmanship is very obvious upon a close inspection. Note for example the round sight vanes with "V" shaped cutouts.
The compass measures 12 inches with a 5.25 inch needle.
I think this unique compass would make a great addition to any early American compass collection.
