C. L. Berger & Sons Mining Transit - Dated 1916
Nice little mountain size (small) mining transit, the optics and amazing multiple crossing cross hairs are in great shape, and the motions turn smoothly. It has the original box, auxiliary scope which can be mounted on the side or top of scope, the original counterweight and a tripod. It also has the rare addition of a Beaman Stadia Arc on the vertical circle, and has Montana history associated with it (see Patent Description attached below). It was originally purchase by Anaconda Copper Mining Company in Butte, MT in 1916, and was later acquired by Koehler Stout, who was a teacher at the Montana School of Mines in Butte beginning in 1952 (the name of the college was later changed to Montana Tech).
