1904 Berger Solar Transit

Known History - Berger's Purchase Order

360 Degree Spinner View

This is a very nice Berger 2C Transit with Berger's Combined Solar attachment and Top Mounted Telescope. The instrument comes with a gradient as well, which is a very nice extra. The size of the top telescope, along with the counterpoise, made this instrument suitable for mining work as well.

The optics work on this instrument, and the instrument turns freely.

I don not have the box or tripod for this instrument - just the solar transit.

I have a 1902 Berger Instrument Catalogue on my website. You can see more info about Berger Transits there.

This instrument might have been restored at some point. Not to the same extent as the Gurley Solar Transit with Jones Latitude Arc or the Berger Davis Solar Transit I'm also selling, but this is a splendid instrument as well with a known history.

A copy of Berger's purchased order is attached below, which is a really neat item if you are going to display this wonderful instrument. The original purchaser was A. E. Coonrod, which fortunately is a very easy name to research on the internet.
Coonrod was a long-time surveyor and civil engineer based in Elizabethtown, New York, and surveyed extensively in the Adirondack Mountains and vicinity. You can find more out about Coonrod with a simple Google search. I did find an affidavit online which provides some more info - Coonrod Affdavit.
